Cable crossover machine out of service

The cable crossover on the gym floor failed its inspection with a frayed cable and is tagged out until the contractor replaces it. Do not remove the tag or use the machine. Instructors, offer members the alternative exercises listed at the fitness desk. Report any other equipment concern in the equipment and maintenance register the same day.

Safety

Watch around water: enforce it kindly

Last week a lifeguard assisted an eight year old in the deep end whose parent was on the deck looking at a phone. Children under five stay within arm's reach and under ten are actively supervised by a parent in the aquatic area. Lifeguards, speak to parents early and respectfully, and call the duty supervisor if a parent will not comply. Record every assist.

Child safety refresher due for all coaches and volunteers

Annual child safety refresher training is due by 30 September for every coach, swim teacher, outdoor leader and volunteer. Sessions run at the sport hub on 17 September and the leisure centre on 19 September, with an online option. Anyone without the refresher recorded in the register by 1 October will be stood down from child-related programs until it is complete.

Hypochlorite deliveries: staff sign-off before the driver leaves

After a delivery hose was found still connected to the fill point, the chemical delivery checklist now requires a trained staff member to be present for the whole delivery and to sign off that the hose is disconnected, the fill point capped and the bund clear before the driver leaves. Only trained plant staff receive chemical deliveries.
