The situation

What has happened

Bayside Grammar has booked an overnight bushwalk for 24 year 9 students on 24 and 25 September on the Otway ridge track, with four leaders including you and Harper Quinn. The trip plan and risk assessment must reach Tane Wiremu by 19 September. A student rolled an ankle on loose rock on the ridge track this month, spring river levels are variable at the creek crossing, and the fire danger season has not yet started. The school has sent enrolment forms with two students who have asthma and one with a nut allergy. Tents and stoves are in the equipment register and the abseil set is not needed.

Your brief. Produce a complete trip plan and risk assessment on the template for the overnight walk, adapted from the generic bushwalking risk assessment to this route, group and season, with leader qualifications verified, weather and river decision points, equipment and communications confirmed and residual risks that the manager can approve.

What to look for

Evidence guide

The plan must be specific to this route and group, not a copy of the generic assessment, with the loose rock section, the creek crossing and the medical needs controlled. Leader verification must precede the ratio calculation. Look for clear go or no-go conditions, an overdue time, escape routes and a check-in schedule. The residual risks must be rated and any high risk flagged for the manager's written approval.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
