CAQA Summit Sport and Recreation, fitness centre, aquatic centre, outdoor recreation and community sport
CAQA Summit Sport and Recreation is a not-for-profit sport and recreation provider serving the growing communities between Geelong and Melbourne's west. It operates the Summit Leisure Centre, a gym, group fitness studio, 50 metre pool, learn-to-swim pool and hydrotherapy pool, the Summit Outdoor Base in the Otway Ranges, which runs bushwalking, camping, canoeing and school outdoor education programs, and the Summit Community Sport Hub, an indoor stadium with courts and ovals used by 34 affiliated clubs. Summit serves around 9,000 members, 2,600 learn-to-swim students, 1,800 club participants and 6,500 school and community program participants each year.
The organisation is organised into six departments: the fitness centre, the aquatic centre, outdoor recreation, community sport and coaching, facilities and plant, and customer service, safety and compliance. The leisure centre opens 5:30 am to 10 pm on weekdays and 7 am to 8 pm on weekends, with lifeguards rostered to the supervision plan for every hour the pools are open. The outdoor base runs day and overnight programs from September to May with leaders working on multi-day trips. The sport hub trades to 11 pm on club nights and hosts weekend competitions and school holiday programs. Head office at the leisure centre holds membership, finance, marketing and people functions.
